Garganey – Dhahran Hills

The three very early Garganey seen on the percolation pond mid-January are still present on the pond but have now been joined by four more birds. These birds comprise two males and five females. Other duck present included nine Gadwall and seven Eurasian Teal. Little Grebe numbers appear to be increasing slightly with well over twenty birds, hopefully ready for another good breeding season. The Great Crested Grebe seems to have departed which is a shame as there were two earlier in the year with one appearing to be nest building but the high water levels recently have probably caused them to depart? There has not been much else on the pond recently with the exception of one Eurasian Wigeon that spent a couple of days there.
