Two Crab Plovers - Dammam / Al Khobar Wader Roost South

A trip to the Dammam – Al Khobar Wader Roost South at high tide produced two adult Crab Plovers together at the high tide roost. This site has turned out to be a regular site for the birds and they can be seen from June to October. The site is being redeveloped into a large housing complex but hopefully the access to the seafront will remain and the roost will continue to be used by birds.

Other waders are still low in numbers with 35 Eurasian Curlews, one Whimbrel, 17 Common Redshanks, 30+ Kentish Plovers, seven Black-winged Stilts and 100+ Greater Sand Plovers. The only other birds of note were eight Saunder’s Terns and 15 Caspian Terns.
