White-throated Kingfisher still in Deffi Park – Bird records by Vinu Mathew and Rejith

Vinu Mathew and his friend Rejith went to Deffi Park to try to locate the White-throated Kingfisher that had been seen there recently. They managed to see the bird but did not get any photos as it is flighty and keeps well hidden in the trees. They did photograph a few other birds at the site including the wintering Masked Shrike. Other birds that appear to be wintering in the park include Common Kingfisher, photographed by Rejith as well as Common Greenshank and Indian Reef Heron. One species that was seen that is not common in the park was a male Namaqua Dove. Although this species is relatively common in the surrounding areas it is much less common in built up areas. I thank Vinu and Rejith for allowing me to use their photos and sightings on my website.
